Australia (2002)
Discourse of Superiority, Forced Migration, Racism, 20th Century, Aborigines
: In the chapter Aboriginal Australians, Mason points to the discrimination of Australian Aborigines on the part of white settlers from the 18th and well into the 20th century, stating that the Aborigines had not been considered by the Constitution of 1901. Mason demonstrates by means of a textbook excerpt from the 1930s how – until well into the 20th century – the prevalent opinion was that the Aborigines did not play a part in history. In a subsequent passage he addresses social Darwinism, which influenced the attitudes of white Australians towards the Aborigines.
